A taxi driver has been given a "generous tip" after returning a carrier bag filled with £9,000 which had been left in the back of his cab.
Trevor Hamilton was going to throw away the Sainsbury’s plastic bag, having assumed that it only contained some rubbish discarded by a customer.
But, just before he dropped the carrier into a bin, he peered inside and discovered £9,000 in notes and a chequebook.
Mr Hamilton called his employers at United Taxis in Bournemouth, Dorset, and found the customer had already reported the loss.
When he didn’t call back again they handed the money into the local police station and an officer eventually tracked him down and reunited him with the cash.
The unidentified customer was so delighted that he left Mr Hamilton a £200 tip for his honesty.
